FAQs

  • Therapy is uniquely different for everyone. Some come to therapy to work on a specific concern and conclude within a few weeks. Others choose to address multiple concerns over time. Most importantly, you decide when you are ready to "graduate" from therapy, a moment to be cherished whenever you are ready.

  • You will most likely know within the first few sessions whether counseling is helping you based on the progress measured over time and your own experience.

  • First, book a free 15-minute consultation to meet with Jean-Marie virtually to share your concerns and whether you feel you can work well together. Second, determine wether you want to use your insurance or self-pay and how that fits in your budget. Third, book your first (intake) session.

Before your first (intake) session, you read, sign, and fill out lots of paperwork that will help you and Jean-Marie to get started quickly. During the first (intake) session, you will both review some of the legal and ethical expectations in counseling as well as explore your concerns more deeply. From there, you will determine what your treatment goals are and how you will achieve them.

  • During the free 15-minute consultation, you have the opportunity to ask Jean-Marie any questions you might have about how the therapeutic process would look like when working with him. Likewise, Jean-Marie will want to confirm that he has the experience and confidence to be able to help you.

For many, the initial consultation is sufficient to give them a sense of whether the relationship could be successful. However, even if a few session in it turns out that the match was not as ideal as initially anticipated, there is no shame in finding someone more fitting.

Your wellbeing takes priority, and there is no shame in changing your mind.

  • Jean-Marie works with partners who process insurance claims. During the free 15-minute consultation, he can check the estimated cost for the initial and subsequent therapy sessions.

  • Jean-Marie is licensed in Nevada, Oregon, and Texas and can offer counseling accordingly.

  • Jean-Marie works virtually in the states of Nevada, Oregon, and Texas. While he is physically located in Texas, he is licensed to see clients who are located in any of the three mentioned states.

  • As long as your location remains in a state where Jean-Marie is licensed (Nevada, Oregon, Texas), you can continue your sessions if desired. Otherwise, you would need to take a break until your return.

  • A treatment plan is a collaboratively developed document that outlines your treatment goals and objectives in therapy. For example, if you experience symptoms of depression, one of your treatment goals may be to reduce the level of severity of your depressive symptoms (goal) by learning appropriate coping skills (objective). Treatment goals are often defined as S.M.A.R.T. goals (specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, timely). A treatment plan is not set in stone and can be reviewed and amended at any time during the course of therapy.

  • Homework, otherwise called experiment, is a natural part of therapy. Many treatment plan objectives relevant require some learning and application of interventions and coping skills to achieve the determined treatment goals.

However, even though there might be some work necessary during and in between sessions, it does not have to feel like homework or a chore. Instead, experiments can be fun and ideally lead to the desired outcomes.
